From Kona International Airport, take to Hawaiian skies transfigured by the setting sun into incredible layers of orange, yellow, purple and green. Get a new perspective on some of the Big Island's most popular sights, viewing the towering peaks of Mauna Loa, lava glows at Halema‘uma‘u Crater, black sand beaches, lush forests of Kohala Coast, and you’ll be amazed viewing one of only four green sand beaches in the world! Venture to the sacred Pu‘uhonua ‘o Hōnaunau (The Place of Refuge under ancient Hawaiian law), and Kealakekua Bay where Captain James Cook first came ashore in the 1700’s from an unparalleled angle high above. If you’re lucky, you’ll also be able to see a "green flash" on the horizon as the sun slips down below. This is the perfect end to a fun day with family or the perfect start to a romantic evening for two.

FAQ
Expand all
What is the difference between the First Class (Co-Pilot Seat) and Open Seating
  • Open Seating offers raised seats and unobstructed views while Preferred Seating is our most popular option. This First Class experience includes sitting next to the pilot, extra arm and leg room, and no one in front of you to obstruct your views of the island!
Is giving a tip (gratuity) required?
  • Gratuity is never required, but if you enjoyed your experience a tip is always greatly appreciated!
How far in advance should I book this activity?
  • We recommend booking at least 1-2 weeks in advance. If you have very specific schedule requirements and are not flexible, please book sooner. Last minute availability is often possible, but limited.
What kind of helicopter will be used?
  • The Bell Jet 407 is a six-passenger aircraft known for having the fastest cruising speed of any helicopter on the islands, offering unsurpassed comfort and a virtually vibration-free ride. Its over-sized windows are great for picture taking, and its large fuel capacity allows for extended, non-stop flights.
Are lava sightings guaranteed?
  • Although your pilot will make every effort to find active lava flows during your helicopter tour, volcanic activity is an unpredictable natural phenomena and cannot be guaranteed. Nevertheless, Kilauea is the most active volcano in the world, so the chances of seeing red-hot emerging lava are high.

It was awesome, coming close to the boiling cauldron of lava and seeing it up close and personal, while remaining safe. The rest of the tour was great, also.
