Kilauea Volcano's most recent lava flow has been oozing through inaccessible and private lands until it recently started cascading down a cliff that is not only in viewing distance, but is road and hike accessible too. Your expert guides are constantly checking the conditions and flow changes so that your 10 mile hike goes along the best possible route to witness this incredible phenomena of nature. Feel the heat as you safely see the fiery molten lava as your guide invokes the power of Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of fire, with a traditional 'oli or chant. This once in a lifetime opportunity awaits!

How strenuous is this activity?
  • This is a moderately strenuous hike that will cover up to 8 miles over rocky and uneven terrain. You must wear closed-toed shoes. This hike is not recommended for those with any health issues or unable to hike or walk over long distances.
Are we guaranteed to see flowing lava?
  • Although the guides are constantly keeping track of the most recent flow sites and directions, due to the dynamic nature of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Kilauea Volcano, active lava viewing conditions can change daily or even hourly. This tour is your best opportunity to get up close to active lava, but lava viewing can not be guaranteed.
How close do we get to the lava entry point?
  • Much of this hike goes to the surface lava flow and you get up close to the lava at about a foot away. The lava entry point can be seen at a safe distance of 300 yards from where the lava flow hits the ocean.
How strenuous is the hike?
  • The hike is 10 to 11 miles round-trip in distance and is considered moderate to strenuous in difficulty.
