First of all, may I just say YUMMM!? If there is one thing that this luau does well, it is the food! The buffet lines were groaning under the weight of all of the delicacies and the tables were laden with a bounty of food. There were tossed, macaroni and shrimp salads, an incredibly yummy fruit salad mixed with haupia, a perfect lomi-lomi salmon (not too salty like how a lot of places make it), some kalua pork which was insanely juicy, of course there was some of the ever-popular mahi-mahi, and my favorite, teriyaki beef that just melted in my mouth! I kept going back for more and even though I was stuffed, I still had enough room for dessert, and thank goodness for that. The guava cake was to-die-for and the macadamia nut cream pie was a little slice of heaven. Yes, it was really THAT good! Out of all the luaus I have to been to so far, the Royal Hawaiian Luau has, by far, the BEST food!
My friends and I were quickly checked in at the ticket counter and then we made our way on the Royal Hawaiian Hotel's Ocean Lawn. We were greeted with leis by a bevy of Polynesian performers and then escorted to our seats. We meandered around for awhile and watched the sky blossom into color as the sun began to set into waters. The view of Waikiki and Diamond Head was postcard perfect!
The show itself is a mix of a variety of Polynesian dances and the performers were quite good. There were dances from Tahiti, modern and ancient Hawaiian hulas, an energetic Samoan slap dance and of course the ever ever popular Samoan fire knife dance! It was also incredibly romantic when they invited all the newlyweds and couples celebrating anniversaries to dance as the singers sang the Hawaiian Wedding Song.?
The Royal Hawaiian Luau is definitely a great choice for those who would like experience luau without having to leave the comforts of Waikiki.
