Prepare yourself for an unforgettable inter-island flight, taking you from Maui to the Big Island! Departing from Kahului Airport, your journey begins as you fly past Haleakala Crater before then crossing the awe-inspiring Alenuihaha Channel to the northern tip of the Big Island. Enjoy a bird's eye view of famed Parker Ranch, the second largest cattle ranch in the U.S., witness the world-class observatories at the top of Mauna Kea, pass over Mauna Loa, and then proceed to the unmatched, stark beauty of Kilauea Crater's active volcanic areas!

After viewing this vast region, you will cruise over Hilo and nearby Akaka Falls, following the lovely, winding Hamakua Coast of the island's north shore. Set your sights on the spectacular Kohala cliffs and waterfalls, sure to amaze and inspire you!

As your journey concludes, you will cross the channel again, making your way over Maui's heavenly Hana, and skirting along the island's south shore. You will have now traversed over 300 miles across the friendly Hawaiian skies before being deposited safely back to your point of origin at Kahului!

*Please be advised that volcano activity and weather is variable, making each tour a unique adventure. Actual flight times and routing may vary. Also, this is an extremely popular air tour and seats are limited, so it is always a good idea to book your reservations early!


Piper Chieftain Interior

 Volcano Air Tours is the only fixed-wing air tour company on Maui with air-conditioned airplanes, have the largest windows, the most experience flying tours of the islands and a perfect safety record.

Every passenger has a large rectangular window which makes it easy to see out both sides of the airplane so you're sure to see the spectacular cliffs, valleys, waterfalls, and active volcano area. Also every seat is equipped with a stereo headset to listen to the pilot's narration and stereo music.

 The Aircraft: Tours are flown in FAA certified and inspected, air-conditioned, twin-engine Piper Chieftain aircraft with accommodations for 9 passengers.

Location: Departure from the Kapalua Airport, Maui.

Transportation: No transportation is included. For those arriving by cruise ship, Kapalua is a 10 minute taxi ride from the Lahaina Harbor.

  • Passengers weighing more than 260 lbs are required to purchase the comfort seats, and they must not exceed 290 lbs.
  • Passengers must be able to climb two steps to board the plane and those in wheelchairs or with oxygen bottles cannot be accommodated.
