We loved the tram ride, beautiful grounds with peacocks and more, the great food at the luau, friendly people, a wonderful show! The covered pavilions made it pleasant! It was nice to have our picture taken and available for purchase. We liked having the luau in one place and the show in another. Wear mosquito repellent!

Not impressed

This was touted as the best luau on Kauai, but we were not impressed. Yes the grounds are beautiful and the tram guide was very knowledgeable, but the rest of the staff was mediocre at best. This was too large a gathering for the limited time of the event. Yes, we were the last table to be released for the buffet, and there was plenty of food available, but we felt rushed to eat and the tables were being cleared before we even finished our dinner, not to mention dessert. The show had a couple of good highlights, but was mainly various styles of hula dancers.

We have attended other Luaus on Kauai, but this Luau exceeded all expectations. The grounds are beautiful, the food was great and the service was outstanding. There was plenty of food and drink (all you can eat/ drink) and it was all delicious! The Smith family and their associates are warm, friendly and genuine. One note of caution to those with young children - the show does not begin until after dinner is over, so this could make for a long night for some little ones. My two sons (3 years and 4 months) did well and enjoyed the show, but were definitely getting a little tired toward the end. Overall, I would highly recommend this luau.

Smith Luau Extraordinary

The Smith Luau was an overall extraordinary experience and great value. The evening begins with a tram or walking tour of Smith's Tropical Paradise. The grounds include a wide variety of birds and fish, and labelled foliage. The luau was in a covered open-air pavillion, and preceded by giving thanks for the food and asking God's blessings. The luau was served buffet style, including fish, pork, chicken and beef dishes, and a wide variety of vegetables and desserts. While eating, we were serenaded by a live band, playing traditional Hawaiian music. Following the luau, we moved to a covered open-air amphitheater for a live show, including segments depicting the many cultures of the Hawaiian islands. The staff was genuinely courteous and kind. Overall, this was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, and is highly recommended.

I highly recommend doing the fern grotto cruise & then the luau right after. This was a wonderful family experience!!

Miss the Luau

Was our first time to Hawaii, and thought a Luau would be fun to do. Our vacation time and money would have been better spent elsewhere. This is like a time warp, something out of the 50's or 60's. Bad banquet food, "Hawaiian" music played very loudly during the meal, and the show, that can be missed, although at the very end the flame eater was mildly entertaining. This isn't to say they don't try hard, most of the staff were very friendly, however this event is passed it's day.

Very canned tourist experience. The show was well done but about 20 minutes too long. There were also 250 people+ at this event which was disappointing. The grounds were beautiful and the food was good. The people were nice. It seemed very Disney and sadly, not authentic.

We enjoyed our experience at the luau. The food was very good and they were very experienced at moving a big crowd through efficiently. It was great having the Hawaiian music during dinner. The show was pretty good. We did enjoy it, but it doesn't quite compare to the show at the Polynesian Cultural Center on Oahu, which is the best. This one was good, and it tried to have different islands represented, but the numbers were all very similar to each other. Loved the fire and volcano and the dragon. It was an enjoyable evening for our family.

This was a great luau -- more than we had hoped for, considering we thought the luau we attended on Maui was going to be best out there (it turned out to be a tie). The Smith family certainly knows how to treat its guests. Not only did you get a wonderful tram ride around the estate (to check out the beautiful peacocks and lush landscape), you got a great meal followed by a wonderful show. We were very impressed.

we spent the day kayaking the Wailua River and this was the perfect cap on a perfect day. The gardens are lovely, the luau food I assume is typical for luau food, which isn't exactly to mainland tastes, but we didn't really go for the food anyway. It was delightfully entertaining, with lovely dancing. It was my first luau so I don't have much to compare it to, but had heard about this one, so we tried it. I would recommend it to anyone, it is a good value for the moneye.
