The Wailua River is a gorgeous calm water jungle stream in the heart of Kauai. Enjoy the lush scenery as you paddle into the heart of the island, all the way to the shadow of Mount Wai'ale'ale. After an easy downwind paddle upstream, you will tie your kayak to a tree and take a somewhat rugged and very beautiful one-mile hike up valley to a dramatic 130-foot waterfall with a pool at the bottom. You can frolic in this beautiful pool to cool off and then feast on a great picnic lunch on big basalt boulders!

As you pass through this spectacular and interesting valley by kayak and on foot, your guide will be sharing the mana'o (knowledge) of the island and you will learn about the history of ancient Kauai, how the Ali'i (royalty) and Maka'ainana (common people) lived and played in days gone by, and also about the unique and unusual medicinal and food plants that inhabit the Wailua River Valley, as well as identifying many beautiful ornamental plants, both native and introduced.
