Gathering of the Kings

Gathering of the Kings is a dynamic story of the Polynesian people filled with mystery, intrigue, courage, and hope. It depicts their journey across the Great Pacific to the lands they settled along the way, portraying a fresh recognition of their identity, heritage, and destiny, where cultural diversity is celebrated and embraced. It is their history coming alive through melodic lyrics, deep poetry, and enchanting dance, exhibiting a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors and rhythmic beats unique to the Pacific Islands. A new sound, capturing the best of both traditional and modern music and dance, draws the participant into a timeless place full of enchantment and energy.

"The Gathering of the Kings" Program

  • Creation and First Migration

  • Preparation for Departure into Uncharted Waters of the Pacific

  • Departure and Multiplication of the Polynesian Race

  • Birth of Samoa

We first catch our breath on the shores of Samoa, watching the rise of Malietoa, a title of honor and leadership, perpetuated and maintained by the traditions of the "Fa'a Samoa" (the Samoan ways) providing the fertile soil to grow deep roots which strengthen Samoan generations of past, present and future. Enriched by its spontaneous and joyful atmosphere, a full repertoire of rhythm is mingled with laughter which will surely leave you entertained and breathless.

Tahitian Dance

  • Birth of Tahiti

The journey then finds us in Tahiti where the glory of King Pomare I comes to life. Surrounded by his ra'atira (nobles), King Pomare I ruled over a united Tahitian kingdom, amidst the melodious, pounding rhythms of the wooden drums. Dancers fill the stage as they recount the stories of the migrating birds that bid their ancestors to come and inhabit these jeweled islands.

Hawaii

  • Birth of Hawaii

Follow the path of the outrigger's billowing sails to Hawaii, where a young Ali'i would fulfill his destiny and bring the entire chain of islands under his reign. King Kamehameha I, is hailed as a Conqueror and leader who brought an end to generations of tribal warring, ushering the Hawaiian Islands into a new era of peace.

Maori Warrior

  • Birth of Aotearoa

Be filled with awe as our chief navigator and settler of over half of Aotearoa (New Zealand) is honored. The warrior's devotion to Chief Potatau Te Wherowhero is seen in the display of the war canoe and the pronouncement of karakia, words of belssing over the King. Along side their men, the women show their respect with dances combining poi balls and gestures of their strength. It is a celebration of establishment and success of the Maori tanga (traditional way).

Siva 'Afi - Samoan Fire Knife Dance

  • Siva 'Afi - Fire Knife Dance of Samoa
  • Gathering of the Kings

The kings are gathered to recognize the star that brought them to these islands and the rising of their people to new aspirations and hope, with new and brighter starts to guide them. It is a call to all mankind to follow and fulfill their destiny, to bring peace and unity to all.
