Volcano tour for 30th anniversary

Reviewer: Mr. Bob & Kathy  Posted on 3 May 2010
Overall Rating:
We took the volcano tour 4/ 24/ 10. Mark from Hawaii Forest and Trial was fantastic. Very courteous and knowledgeable. Only let down is that there is no orange color from the lava during the day. I would recommend their twilight tour. We went at night on our own later in the week and ran into Mark at the viewing area. We also did the helicopter tour earlier that day, which was very good, but not great. For all that driving (we stayed in Kona) and expense, the helicopter only spent only about 10-15 minutes tops. Kind of like a 30 second roller coaster ride you waited in line for an hour. Back to this tour, it was very good. We enjoyed it and the guide very much, but I would recommend their twilight tour instead.

Volcano Adventure was Great!

Reviewer: Ms. Anonymous  Posted on 4 Feb 2009
Overall Rating:
Bob, our guide, was very knowledgeable with regard to the park and its operations. He headed straight to the visitor's center after being alerted about the poor air quality due to wind shifts. We would have missed seeing the crater without his quick thinking.

Bob showed considerable knowledge regarding the volcano, surrounding areas, local vegetation and native habits/ cultures.

We enjoyed the tour and would return!

Great Tour!!!

Reviewer: Mr. Brian  Posted on 28 Aug 2008
Overall Rating:
Danny was our guide for this trip. He was outstanding, he shared all of the accumulated wealth of knowledge he had about Hawaii's volcanic activity. Took us to areas that if you tried to see yourself, you might get there, but, you really woundn't know what your looking at. Pelee'e hair, teardrops, Volcanic trees, etc.. Only down side was another guest that ran his mouth the entire 12 hours of the tour. Food was good. When they say to bring a light sweater, you really need it the the top of the mountain, windy and downright cold, the hot chocolate helped as well as the homemade cookies.

I totally loved this tour

Reviewer: Ms. Yulia  Posted on 27 May 2008

I totally loved this tour. We were just two people (plus the guide) on this tour, so it was like having VIP treatment. We walked inside a lava tube, saw the steam vents, saw the huge smoke coming from the new vent, saw the road, blocked with lava. Our guide (Merritt) was excellent, she provided a lot of information about volcanoes, plants and animals of Hawaii, local culture, that otherwise I would not have found myself. We drove through good part of island and had opportunity to enjoy some gorgeous views.
I would recommend to do this tour during your first day, so that if you see something interesting you can come back by yourself later. I would also recommend any tour with Hawaii Eco Tour. These guys are really good. Enjoy! :)
