Experience the spiritual energy of what many Hawaiians believe to be the most sacred place in all the islands. In your hooded parka you'll stand in awe at both natures sublime creation and man's astonishing technological achievements.

Before reaching the summit you'll enjoy a wonderful hot meal at a private, secluded, and historic Parker Ranch outpost located at the base of the mountain. Dinner is served about an hour and a half before sunset and after dinner, you will take the 35-minute drive to the summit of Mauna Kea. It is hard to believe that you are in Hawaii as you climb 13,500 feet above sea level.

Once at the summit, you'll enjoy spectacular views of the horizon, Haleakala on Maui, Mauna Kea's world-class array of telescopes and the famous Mauna Kea sunset.

After sunset you will descend back down to a 9,000-foot elevation next to the Visitor's Information Station. Wrapped warm in arctic parkas with hot beverages and chocolate macadamia nut cookies, you will marvel at the brilliance of the Hawaiian sky as you view it through telescope. Your Naturalist Guide will be offering you a personal and educational look at the heavens.

  • Wheel Chair Accessibility: Tour van is not equipped with a lift so some mobility and assistance is necessary to enter and exit the vehicle. Some terrains visited may not be paved, but are generally wheelchair accessible.
